Hilltop algorithm

The Hilltop algorithm was studied by Krishna Baharat around 2000. In 2001, Krishna Baharat applied for a patent and authorized the patent to Google for use. Later, Kirshna Baharat himself joined Google.
The Hilltop algorithm can be simply understood as a topic related PR value. Traditional PR values are not associated with specific keywords or topics, and only link relationships are calculated. This may lead to some loopholes. For example, a university page with high PR value on environmental protection has a link to a children's products website. The reason why this link appears may be that the maintainer of the university page is a professor and his wife works in the company that sells children's servers. This link, which has nothing to do with the theme but has a very high PR value, may make some websites get good rankings, but in fact it is not highly relevant.
Hilltop algorithm tries to correct this possible omission. Hilltop algorithm also calculates the link relationship, but it pays more attention to the link weight from the related pages of the topic. In the Hilltop algorithm, this topic related page is called an expert file. Obviously, there are different expert files for different topics or search terms. ( Beijing website production )
According to the Hilltop algorithm, after the user searches for keywords, Google first finds a series of related pages and ranks them according to the normal ranking algorithm, and then calculates how many links related to the topic come from expert files on these pages. The more links from expert files, the higher the ranking score of the page. According to the original idea of the Hilltop algorithm, a page must have at least two links from expert files to return a certain Hilltop value, otherwise the returned Hilltop value will be zero.
The score calculated according to the expert file link is called LocalRank. The ranking program readjusts the ranking calculated by the original traditional ranking algorithm according to the LocalRank value to give the final ranking. This is the final filtering and adjustment step in the search engine ranking stage discussed earlier.
Hilltop algorithm initially described the selection of expert files differently when writing papers and applying for patents. In the initial study, Krishna Baharat defined expert files as containing specific subject matter. In addition, many pages linked to third-party websites are exported, which is similar to the hub page in the HITS algorithm. The page pointed to by the expert file link should not be associated with the expert file itself. This association refers to sub domain names from the same primary domain name, pages from the same or similar IP addresses, etc. The most common expert documents often come from the websites of schools, governments and industry organizations.
In the original Hilltop algorithm, expert files were pre selected. The search engine can predict and calculate a set of expert files according to the most perceptive search terms. When the user searches, the ranking algorithm selects a subset of expert files related to the search term from the set of expert files that are calculated first, and then calculates the LocalRank value from the links in this subset. ( High end website construction )
However, in the patent application filed in 2001, Krishna Baharat described another method for selecting expert files. Expert files are not selected in advance. After the user searches for specific query words, the search engine selects a series of initial relevant pages according to the traditional algorithm. These pages are expert files. The Hilltop algorithm recalculates which pages have links from other pages in the collection in this page collection, and assigns a higher LocalRank value. Because the page set obtained by the traditional algorithm has already been relevant, these pages provide links to a specific page, and the weight of these links should naturally be high. This method of selecting expert files is real-time.
It is generally believed that the Hilltop algorithm has a significant impact on the Florida update at the end of 2003. However, no one can be sure whether the Hilltop algorithm has really been incorporated into Google's ranking algorithm. Google has never admitted or denied whether it used a patent in its ranking algorithm. However, from the observation of ranking results and the signs of soliciting Krishna Baharat to his subordinates, Google attaches great importance to the idea of Hilltop algorithm.
Hilltop algorithm prompt SEO When building external links, we should pay more attention to websites related to the theme. The simplest way is to search for a keyword. The top page is the best link source at present, and even a link from a competitor's website has the best effect. Of course, it is the most difficult to obtain such a link.
