Western Airport Group is subordinate to the People's Government of Shaanxi Province. Its predecessor is Xi'an Xianyang International Airport. After the airport localization reform in 2003, Xi'an Xianyang International Airport took over four branch airports, Yulin, Yan'an, Hanzhong and Ankang, and established Shaanxi Airport Management Group Company. In 2004 and 2006, it realized joint reorganization with Ningxia Airport Company and Qinghai Airport Company, and changed its name to Western Airport Group Company. In October 2012, the Group signed an agreement with Gansu Provincial Government to be responsible for the construction and operation of Tianshui, Gannan, Longnan and Pingliang airports. In September 2015, it took over Yinchuan Yueya Lake General Airport. In 2016, he signed a contract to be responsible for the construction and subsequent operation management of Hancheng and Danfeng general airports. At present, the Group is responsible for the construction and operation management of three trunk airports in Xianyang, Yinchuan and Xining, 16 branch airports and three general airports in Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai provinces. The number of airports under management and the aviation business volume account for 70% and 84% of the total amount of civil aviation in the northwest, respectively. It has developed into the second largest airport management group operating across provinces and regions in China, with more than 10000 employees.
