Hainan National Park Research Institute is a public welfare institution jointly founded by Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park Administration, Hainan University, China Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, China Academy of Forestry Sciences and Beijing Forestry University. It is positioned as a global think tank for national parks and ecological civilization construction, and also a provincial scientific research institution A talent training base and a bridge for international exchange and cooperation. The Institute plans to build a global, open, co built and shared platform within three to five years to become a first-class think tank serving the construction and development of national parks in tropical regions around the world, a professional base for capacity building and talent cultivation, and the most influential database (including gene bank) and information platform.

The main function of Hainan National Park Research Institute is to serve the major issues and policy consulting research of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park and ecological civilization construction. Hainan National Park Research Institute implements the management responsibility system under the leadership of the Council. The alliance of these experts and institutions has provided a solid foundation and strong guarantee for the Institute to become a world-class think tank and consulting research institution.

The Research Institute is a major initiative for the system and mechanism innovation of national parks. It implements the contract employment system for all employees, introduces talents flexibly driven by projects, and establishes a standardized and reasonable salary incentive system and other management systems according to the market mechanism. At present, the Institute has gathered more than 300 multi-disciplinary and multi-level talents in biology, ecology, law, economics, management and other disciplines at home and abroad, and has established a stable cooperative relationship with many well-known think tanks, universities and research institutions in the world and at home.
