Google: soon release Android 4.0 source code
Google confirmed today that it will soon release the source code of Android 4.0. Initially, Google has been opening the source code of Android system according to the "Android Open Source Project" (hereinafter referred to as "AOSP"). However, Google has not disclosed the source code of Android 3.0 Honeycomb system for tablet development.
There seem to be two reasons for Google's delay in releasing Android 3.0 source code. First, Android 3.0 is developed for tablets, not smartphones. Secondly, Google employees suggested that many source codes of Android 3.0 are not suitable for publication. ( Beijing website production )
But Google confirmed today that it will release the Android 4.0 source code. Jean Baptiste Queru, Google software engineer, said: "AOSP will release the source code again, which means that Android 4.0 will open the source code according to AOSP."
Some insiders said that it is of great significance for Google to open Android 4.0 source code. Among the three major mobile platforms, Android, Windows Phone and iOS, only Android is an open source platform. Therefore, many communities were disappointed that Google had not provided Honeycomb source code before. More importantly, opening Android 4.0 source code will help third-party developers migrate new systems to old mobile phones.
Google and Samsung held a press conference in Hong Kong on Wednesday, releasing the new generation Android 4.0 system, code named "Ice Cream Sandwich", and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone based on Android 4.0.
