According to the scale of computers, they are generally divided into four types: microcomputer, medium-sized computer, mainframe and supercomputer.
1. Emblem type machine
The microcomputer is the personal computer (PC), which is a relatively compact computer and the most common one among all computers. The most common PCs are the following five types.
(1) Desktop
Desktop computer is the original form of personal computer. According to its design, keyboard and display unit are placed togetherWebsite construction outsourcingAs shown in Fig. 3-11.All components are connected to the processing unit through cables. (2) Notebook computer
Notebook computers are about the size of notebooks and are specially designed for portability. No matter where people go, they can easily carry these 3-9 pound (about 1.4-4kg) computers, as shown in Figure 3-12.Notebook computers are different from desktop computers, which are often composed of detachable parts, while notebook computers integrate all their parts together.
(3) Tablet PC
Tablet PC is a lightweight PC, weighing about 3 pounds (about 14kg), as shown in Figure 3-13. Tablet PCs have different shapes and sizes: wireless tablet PCs A special pen is used for control and can be connected to the keyboard;Notebook computer with a pen;A rotatable computer, that is, its screen can be rotated and folded over to cover the keyboard, or it can be disassembled to form an independent tablet PC.Tablet PCs can be used in many situations, such as law enforcement agencies issuing electronic tickets for traffic violations, insurance agents making compensation for damages on the spot by sketching out the scene on the screen.
(4) Palmtop computer
Pocket PC is a kind of microcomputer which is rapidly popular.Palmtop computers are about the size of pocket calculators. At present, they are mainly used to maintain personal schedules, address books and spreadsheets.Designers are adding more functions to these devices, so they will be gradually applied in different fields such as engineering and medicine.HP's iPAQ is a widely used handheld computer, as shown in Figure 3-14.
(5) Personal digital assistant
The Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) is small and weighs less than 500g, but it is fast and powerful, as shown in Figure 3-15.PDA can be used to maintain appointment schedule, make task list, save address book, take notes during meetings, etc.More and more PDAs now have wireless communication functions, enabling them to send and receive faxes and emails without having to connect to telephone lines.
PDA and handheld computers are generally referred to as handheld computers, which means that people can hold them with one hand and input and retrieve information with the other hand to reflect the fact that they are small in size.
2. Medium and mainframe computers
The computers most closely related to medium-sized enterprises and large enterprises are medium-sized computers and mainframes. These types of computers connect people with a great deal of information. This connection can be enterprise level, that is, across many organizations or departments of an organization, or department level.
The medium-sized computer (as shown in Figure 3-16) is usually used to perform a function in large organizations. For example, it is used to control complex manufacturing processes or run a hotel management system. In smaller enterprises or units, medium-sized computers can be used for all business processing activities.
Mainframes (as shown in Figure 3-17) are generally larger, more expensive, and faster than medium-sized computers, and allow a large number of users to connect with each other.Mainframe can also store more data and information.
3. Supercomputer
Supercomputer is the most powerful type of computer among all computers. It is usually specially designed to solve problems composed of complex and difficult calculations.Because they can perform millions or even billions of calculations every second, scientists found that they are very suitable for forecasting weather, preparing models of chemical and biological systems, mapping planetary surfaces, and studying neural networks in the brain.Enterprises can use supercomputers to create and test the latest processes, machines and products. Many automobile manufacturers also design new cars on supercomputers, and then test them by simulating different driving conditions, so as to evaluate the structure and safety of automobile design before investing in automobile manufacturing.
