Amazon launches e-commerce website junglee.com in India

Amazon said in a statement on Thursday that Junglee.com will provide more than 12 million goods from more than 14000 brands in India and the global market. This new website can also allow users to compare the prices of goods, but most real purchases must also be made through third-party retailer networks. In a word, Indian users will be able to contact third-party retailers on Junglee.com, such as Reebok shoes, Microsoft India's computer software, Fabidia's clothing and luxury handbags of the Hidesign brand. However, some goods can be purchased directly through Junglee.com, such as Amazon's own Kindle e-reader, but the most expensive import transaction tax and other related taxes need to be paid.

Amit Agarwal, vice president of Amazon, said in a statement: "We are very happy to be able to provide an e-commerce website for Indian consumers, let them choose a large number of products to sell to local or overseas retailers, and help them make decisions in advance."

At present, the penetration rate of the Internet in India is still very low, but the online retail business is developing rapidly. According to the data of Technopak Advisors, a consultancy in New Delhi, it is estimated that the number of Indian Internet users will increase by eight to 800 million by 2020. Affected by this, the transaction scale of India's e-commerce market will also increase from 10 billion dollars in 2011 to 200 billion dollars in 2020.

The arrival of Amazon will intensify the competition in the field of e-commerce in the Indian market. For example, Flipkart, the largest online bookstore in India, will also compete fiercely with Amazon. Flipkart was founded two years ago, and its founder is also two former employees of Amazon.
