What are interrupters? How does it work?

Source: Shangpin China | Type: website encyclopedia | Time: June 24, 2014
When building a bus Ethernet connected by a coaxial thin cable, the length of its network segment is limited, and the maximum length is not more than 185 meters. This limit comes from the limited electromagnetic wave energy of the signal (because the signal will continuously decay when transmitted on the communication medium). If the span of the network exceeds 185 meters, the transmission signal needs to be repaired and regenerated, which can be realized through repeater equipment.

Repeater is the simplest Website production Network interconnection equipment assists the physical layer to complete corresponding functions.

1. Repeater working level and function

The repeater works on the physical layer of the OSI reference model. It generally has two ports, which are used to connect two network segments. The network segments at both ends are required to have the same media access method. Function: regenerate and integer amplify data signals, in order to expand the distance of network transmission.

2. Working principle of repeater

As shown in Figure 3-5, for a network connected by repeaters, the original network segment 1 is expanded to a larger network segment including network segment 2 through repeaters.
 Working principle of repeater
When host A sends data to host Z:

(1) Host A sends a bit stream signal to the communication medium.

(2) The repeater will integer and amplify the received bit stream signal to correct the attenuated signal.

(3) The integer signal is transmitted to other ports through the repeater.

It can be seen from the above that the repeater is only a physical layer device and will not change the original communication mode of the network. The network expanded by repeater is the same as before. All nodes (including the extended nodes) are in the same conflict domain and also in the same broadcast domain.
