Classification of Multimedia

Source: Shangpin China | Type: website encyclopedia | Time: July 21, 2014
The term "multimedia", which is translated from English multimedia, is a combination of multiple and media. Media has two original meanings. One is the entity that stores information, such as disk, optical disk, tape, semiconductor memory, etc., which is translated into media; The second is the carrier of information transmission, such as numbers, words, sounds, graphics, etc., and the translation medium. The word corresponding to multimedia is monomedia. Literally, multimedia is composed of single media. For more information, please refer to Website production
The concept of media is quite extensive. According to the definition of CCITT, media can be classified as follows:

(1) Sensory media
It refers to the media that directly acts on human sensory organs and makes people feel, such as the sound that causes auditory response, the image that causes visual response, etc.

(2) Represent media
Refers to the intermediary media that transmits sensory media, that is, the code used for data exchange. Such as image coding (JPEG, MPEG), text coding (ASCII, GB 2312) and sound coding. There are three types of presentation media: visual media (bitmap images, vector graphics, charts, symbols, video, animation), auditory media (sound, voice, music), and tactile media (point or position tracking, force feedback, and motion feedback). Visual and auditory media are the content of information transmission, while tactile media are the means to achieve human-computer interaction.

(3) Performance media
It refers to the media for information input and output, such as keyboard, mouse, scanner, microphone, camera, etc; Display powder, printer, loudspeaker, etc. are called output media.

(4) Storage media
It refers to the physical medium used to store the body, such as hard disk, floppy disk, disk, optical disk, ROM, RAM, etc.

(5) Transmission media
It refers to the physical medium that transmits the media, such as cable, optical cable, electromagnetic wave, etc.

In order to connect different media organically, it is necessary to establish a mechanism or structure, which is called hypermedia. In computers, hypermedia is an information storage and retrieval system. It integrates text, shape, image, motion, sound, video and other media into a related basic information system. Usually, information is expressed in the form of text, which is called hypertext. Information includes text, graphics, film and television, animation, music or other media, which is called hypermedia. The WWW application of the Internet is an example of the application of hypermedia technology.
