What are the advantages of using long scroll page design in website construction?

In general, mission - and goal - oriented websites cannot benefit from unlimited rolling design. For e-commerce websites and tutorials or other educational websites, users want to see clear progress. These types of websites need to give users a sense of achievement, which is difficult to achieve for long rolling websites.  

For example, in 2012, Etsy Website construction I tried the infinite scroll design in, and finally returned to paging. They found that although the purchase rate of consumers was roughly the same, the participation rate of users declined significantly. Even things like searches have decreased.  

Etsy left a long running website and started paging again.  

Some e-commerce websites provide visitors with the option of "View All". When viewing the product page, this allows users to choose to view the website in an infinite scrolling format, while retaining a shorter result page for users who prefer this format.  

Pagination is also useful when it is important for people to view information in chronological order. Single page scrolling websites may encourage people to browse and skip, and paging will slow down visitors and increase the possibility that they consume information in the correct order.  

What really stands out from single page scrolling websites are those websites where reading additional content or articles is a natural process. This applies to news websites or feature blogs. Users on these websites usually want to get a lot of information at once, which can be achieved through unlimited scrolling.  

Another obvious area is that unlimited scrolling is a popular choice for UX, which is a social media website or a website with a large number of user generated content. Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter all use infinite scrolling. These websites hope to retain users for as long as possible and do a good job of unlimited scrolling.  

Psychological cost of using long scroll page design in website construction

The psychological impact of any design decision should be carefully considered. When it comes to single page rolling websites, there are both psychological impacts and objections

The first thing to consider is that users don't mind clicking purposefully. From the beginning, click has become part of computing, graphical user interfaces and the Internet. People are used to this special type of interaction. If they have to click on several links to get more content, they will not close the interaction.  

By default, many users do not like infinite scrolling when facing extremely long pages. It feels like being submerged in an endless ocean of information. When users are looking for specific information, scrolling is rarely the most effective method. Because the page length cannot be displayed accurately, infinite scrolling will destroy the scroll bar on one side of the page. Although not every user uses scroll bars, users who use scroll bars may find infinite scrolling frustrating in this regard.  

Unlimited scrolling also eliminates the sense of completion when users click on the next page after completing a task or reaching the goal. This sense of accomplishment will discourage users and lead them to look for other sources for the same information or task.  

Another possible negative psychological impact of long-term website scrolling is that users tend to think that the content at the bottom of the page is not as important as the content at the top of the page. Therefore, the use of titles in website construction design can effectively avoid this situation, because it "resets" the position of the "top" in the visitor's brain to a certain extent.
