Why Chinese website design is so bad

Source: Shangpin China | Type: website encyclopedia | Time: April 25, 2012
Beijing website construction Shangpin China (ihucc.com): I have not received formal education or training in oriental and western culture, sociology, cross-cultural communication or other aspects. In addition, I will use "China" instead of "East". I admit that my summary is just a summary( SEO website optimization )。 For example, Japan has been deeply influenced by the West (and vice versa), and there are too many similarities with us in design and other aspects.

cause
Before I arrived in China in the summer of 2005, I was not aware of the vast cultural differences between the West and China. Of course, there are many obvious differences, such as language, physical appearance, political orientation, etc. However, these differences gradually emerge in the sense of humor, interest and aesthetic orientation.

I guess if I ask a common Western netizen, the answer must be that these websites are not well designed (compared with Facebook and Amazon). It should be noted here that when I asked Chinese website designers, I got different responses. Anyway, my favorite websites collected by Chinese people are as follows:

1. Baidu (Google in China)

2. Alibaba (eBay in China)

3. QQ (AIM/Google Talk in China)

4. Renren (Facebook in China)

5. Sina (Yahoo in China)

I noticed that I could hardly find a Chinese website that really attracted me. Out of curiosity, I began to collect a list of websites that Chinese people often use or think are well designed/easy to use.

In addition to Baidu (whose design is blatantly copied from Google) and Renren (whose design is obviously copied from Facebook), the common design of Chinese websites is a large number of ridiculous elements (such as text), some of which are full of pictures, and some of which have no pictures at all. I am deeply puzzled by this. How can this be accepted? How do Chinese users digest so much content, filter it and decide what they want and what not? Why can they take such a design as a routine?

Moreover, Chinese websites also contain multiple categories, including animations, pop-up windows, window nesting, sidebars, and so on. They are usually surrounded by the mistakes that Western designers make every effort to avoid. I really feel that 1995 seems to have been repeated in front of me.

My feelings
Of course, as a conceited Westerner, my first reaction is: "Oh, they are developing countries and cannot catch up with us." Perhaps this is the problem. I feel that as time goes by, design and aesthetic orientation are changing. For example, I personally would never hang a painting from the Renaissance in my room, but if I were in that era, I would certainly hang it. As a culture, our aesthetic has changed. Perhaps this is where China is now in the development process of design.

Another possibility, perhaps (my personal theory), is that education is better than the development of nature. China's website design aesthetic is formed by the influence of education and culture, rather than the evolution of habit into nature or art. Of course, the evolution of art is based on culture and education, but I think even if the art is evolving, China's website design aesthetic does not catch up with western website design. On the contrary, he was only influenced by himself, fundamentally guided by the oriental culture, and only slightly influenced by the western basic IA concept.
